a2mileA new entirely natural cows’ milk has been released in the UK after success in Australia. It has helped improve the quality of life for thousands of Australians who previously suffered with a milk protein intolerance and is now doing the same in the UK.

Milk protein intolerance is far less recognised than other forms of milk intolerance, such as lactose intolerance. They both can cause bloating, constipation and diarrhea. But instead of being lactose intolerant, it could be that people are reacting to the A1 beta casein in regular cows’ milk.

Most cows’ milk contains different types of protein of which one group is known as caseins (making up 30% of the protein content of cows’ milk). The main types of the beta-casein fraction are A2 and A1. However, all natural a2 Milk comes from cows’ that are DNA tested to verify that they produce milk containing only the a2 protein.

As a health care professional a2 Milk offers you an opportunity to recommend a cows’ milk to clients with a milk intolerance without the worry of them eliminating calcium completely from their diet.

Please be aware that as a natural cow’s milk, a2 is not suitable for those with a clinical cow’s milk allergy, galactosaemia, diagnosed lactose intolerance or a diagnosed intolerance to any other milk protein. It is not suitable for children under the age of one.

a2 Milk is available at Morrison’s, selected Tesco stores, Budgens. From January 2013 it will also available in Waitrose.
