Action for Children runs more than 650 services across the UK working directly with more than 250,000 children, young people, parents and carers. Their services include early years, intensive family support and services for disabled children and young people.

The charity works with families who have multiple, complex problems to improve outcomes for children and young people.

This Impact Report 2012/13 demonstrates how they achieve this.

Highlights for this year include:

  • 86% of children’s centres inspected by Ofsted during 2012/13 were rated ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ in outcomes relating to safeguarding children
  • Intensive Family Support (IFS) services are cost-effective and can enable commissioners to achieve real cash savings. They have demonstrated achievements in reducing anti-social behaviour, non-attendance at school and safeguarding concerns
  • Expanded delivery of evidence-based programmes, including Functional Family Therapy, Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) and Multi-dimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC)
  • Developed forms of social investment funding for new MST services in Essex and MTFC service in Manchester
