The long-awaited British Dietetic Association guidance on weaning will be published in the spring, it was announced today.
Speaking at Nutrition and Health Live 2012 Jacqui Lowdon, chief paediatric dietitian at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and media spokesperson for the BDA, confirmed the guidance is currently being reviewed by the BDA and will be released in the first half of next year.
Current guidelines for weaning are confusing, with a number of bodies producing best-practice guidelines which are often at odds with other similar guidelines, or vague on the best times to start weaning.
The announcement came following a presentation by Elaine Mealey on breastfeeding, which looked at current legislation and guidelines in place for breastfeeding and weaning.
