Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham outlined his new vision for the NHS to CPHVA delegates yesterday, saying that he believes families should receive "integrated care - one point of contact" and that the NHS needs to "put people before profit".
The NHS needs to work towards being a "prevention service", he added, and told the hall of his plans to "develop a fully integrated health system which provides for the social, physical and mental".
This would be achieved by blending budgets for health and social care into one.
Burnham acknowledged that he needs the support of community health professionals to help him shape his vision and received loud applause when he said "I will repeal the Health and Social Care Bill if we get in."
