The shock announcement this week that Andrew Lansley has decided to place the South London Healthcare Trust (SLHT) into administration has placed a question mark over maternity services.

Currently there are two maternity units at the Priness Royal University Site in Orpington and the Queen Elizabeth in Woolwich  - and last year 11,000 women chose to have their babies delivered at SLHT units.

A spokesperson for the Trust yesterday confirmed that to date there are no plans to close the maternity units and wanted to reassure staff and patients that for the moment it is "business as usual".
